Curly Harrow

He was the biggest, the oldest and the meanest man there, and he scowled at Pat as though he hated him. His dark skin — he was half-Mexican on his mother’s side — flashed in the campfire light. Curly was also especially tall, with that squarish jaw and boorish face that women always fell in love with, and the dark, grizzled look of his Mexican heritage. He had a baritone voice that was so deep it was hard to understand, like the rumble of a far-off thunderstorm.
